Rathmines is a suburb on the south side of Dublin, just beyond the Grand Canal. It lies about two miles from Nelson's Pillar, but Stephen's story at the end of Aeolus notes that the "blue dome" of Our Lady of Refuge, a church in Rathmines, can be seen from the top of the pillar.
